Grants and loans are made principally within the following categories:

  • Food
  • Healthcare
  • Primary education
  • Theological tertiary education
  • Bible translator training
  • Bible publication

Minimal (US$10/wk), time-restricted maintenance may also be provided to those in a Hesed-funded course of study or those unable to work.

Priority is normally given to:

  • Widows and orphans
  • Service-based Christian ministry
  • Projects in which at least half of the funding has already been raised locally
  • Projects which serve both Christians and Muslims

Note: An orphan is a child under the age of 18, one or both of whose parents has died.

Ineligible projects (unless so designated by donors) include:

  • Salaries
  • Building projects
  • Capital expenses (e.g. computers)
  • Major chronic health issues (e.g. kidney dialysis)
  • Grants to the friends and family of the Fund’s Administrator
  • Administration of the Fund
