Grants and loans are made principally within the following categories:
- Food
- Healthcare
- Primary education
- Theological tertiary education
- Bible translator training
- Bible publication
Minimal (US$10/wk), time-restricted maintenance may also be provided to those in a Hesed-funded course of study or those unable to work.
Priority is normally given to:
- Widows and orphans
- Service-based Christian ministry
- Projects in which at least half of the funding has already been raised locally
- Projects which serve both Christians and Muslims
Note: An orphan is a child under the age of 18, one or both of whose parents has died.
Ineligible projects (unless so designated by donors) include:
- Salaries
- Building projects
- Capital expenses (e.g. computers)
- Major chronic health issues (e.g. kidney dialysis)
- Grants to the friends and family of the Fund’s Administrator
- Administration of the Fund

Note: Hesed Fund business is done only on Sundays, and applications are normally processed within two weeks of receipt if all required documentation has been provided.
